Purpose / Scope: Purpose: Employers have legal duties under health and safety legislation and common law to ensure operatives are adequately trained in the work equipment they use. This standard is to provide the skills / information required to erect and dismantle manhandled panel soffit formwork. This training would be relevant for concrete frame operatives, formworkers and supervisors. Scope: • overview • terminology • purpose/principles • practical hands on erection / dismantling • hazards • safety features. This is to cover horizontal slabs for typical building applications
Occupation: Concrete
Candidate Prerequisites: Candidates must have successfully completed an NVQ Level 2 in a construction discipline and hold a current CSCS Card. In addition, operatives require at least 6 months’ UK site experience beforehand.
Instruction / Supervision: As a minimum, course instructors must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have: • a train the trainer or instructional techniques course certificate (minimum PTLL’s, EAT Level 3) • at least 5 years relevant industrial experience • practical elements to be observed by a minimum A1 or CAVA assessor • a verifiable CV.
Delivery: Delivery may be in an on or off the job environment. All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for candidates to achieve learning outcomes, and must comply with relevant legislation. Classroom / training facility with suitable IT & presentation equipment i.e. projector / screen or TV monitor The class size and candidate / instructor ratio (max 9:1) must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable candidates to achieve the learning outcomes. This standard is considered to contain 51% or more practical training. This standard is considered to be set at an intermediate level.
Assessment: For the successful completion of training, candidates must complete an end of course practical assessment and knowledge test that measures the learning outcomes and has a pass or fail criteria of 65% at all stages. Safety critical elements will have a 100% pass mark requirement. Theory and practical workbooks to be evaluated and verified by a minimum A1 or CAVA Qualified Assessor.
Quality Assurance: Quality Assurance against this standard will require initial approval of the training organisation and their content mapped to the standard. CITB will also conduct an approval intervention, either desk-based or centre visit, to ensure the Training Organisation can meet the requirements of the Training Standard. Approved Training Organisations (ATOs) will be required to present information on records of training and assessment upon request to CITB for desk based analysis. They will also be visited annually by the CITB Quality Assurance team.
